Bagan Datuk Polytechnic To Begin Operations Early Next Month

BAGAN DATUK, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- The Bagan Datuk Polytechnic, which cost RM175 million to build, will begin operations early next month.

Public Works Department deputy director-general (Building Sector) Badioezaman Ab Khalik said construction of the polytechnic on the 12.14-hectare site began on Nov 3, 2017, and was completed in early October.

"Since the project began in 2017, the contractors and JKR were plagued with various problems. Despite a slight deviation from the actual completion date, we managed to complete the project,” he said at the Bagan Datuk Polytechnic handover ceremony today.

His speech text was read out by Public Works Department (JKR) Special Project Team 1 construction director Suzanna Punari.

Badioezaman said the campus, which is equipped with facilities such as administrative buildings, workshops, laboratories, lecture theatres, dormitories and libraries, is expected to accommodate 1,200 students pursuing a diploma in maritime technology.

"It is understood that this polytechnic offers a diploma programme in naval architecture and will offer two new programmes in 2024, namely the Diploma in Naval Architectural Technology and the Diploma in Naval Electrical Engineering," he said.

He also hoped that the existence of the campus would add value, especially to the field of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in the country.

"I also hope that the campus will play a vital role in producing an efficient, skilled workforce that will contribute to the country's development and meet the demands of the current labour market," he said.
