PETALING JAYA, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- Kumpulan Syarikat Koperasi Amanah Pelaburan Berhad (KAPB) today launched an initiative to support Palestinians by encouraging its members and members of the public to invest in the cooperative as a means to help the people of Palestine who are facing atrocities in Gaza.
KAPB executive chairman Datuk Mohamed Ilyas Pakeer Mohamed said members of the public who wished to invest for the said cause, need to become a member of KAPB and dividends from the investment will be used to build a hospital and mosque in Gaza that were destroyed in the attack by the Israeli regime.
He said the KAPB was targetting a contribution of RM20 million from the dividends gained from the investments to assist the Palestine initiative.
“To achieve the objective, individuals who invest in KAPB throughout the initiative period, from Dec 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024, will also contribute towards the Palestine cause without affecting their investment amount and returns.
"KAPB has the expertise and excellent track record to ensure returns of a minimum of eight percent a year for their investment,” he said after launching the ‘Prihatin Palestin’ initiative at the Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel, here today.
Mohamed Ilyas said since its inception in 2014, the KAPB has been paying dividends ranging from eight to 15 percent a year.
He added that the initiative was a continuation of KAPB’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) through which the cooperative had contributed for humanitarian causes like flood victims, contributing carpets from Masjidil Haram to various mosques as well as for other worthy causes.
“We urge the people of Malaysia to invest and at the same time contribute for a worthy humanitarian cause to assist victims who are in dire need of help,” he said.
Mohamed Ilyas said to ensure the contributions reached the people of Palestine, KAPB will work with Wisma Putra, the Palestine Embassy in Malaysia and the Egyptian Embassy, when handing over the funds.
He said the KAPB with the cooperation of the Palestine Embassy in Malaysia will be sending four containers of blankets to the people of Palestine in Gaza as preparations to face the coming winter season.
