KANGAR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- A Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) journalist has won first place in the Best Tourism, Heritage and Art Category of the Perlis Journalism Awards organised by the Perlis Journalists Association (PWP) in partnership with the state government tonight.
Former Perlis bureau chief Ahmad Muliady Abdul Majid, who is now serving at BERNAMA headquarters, received a trophy and RM1,000 in cash for his news report entitled ‘Naik 'Choley' Tarikan Baharu Di Kampung Seberang Ramai'.
Perlis Tourism, Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee chairman Wan Badariah Wan Saad presented the award to BERNAMA Perlis bureau chief Nurrul Huda Ahmad Lutfi, who represented Ahmad Muliady.
Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail officiated tonight’s award ceremony, which was also attended by PWP president Syed Muhammad Azlan Sayid Hizar.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin had earlier said in his speech that the information disseminated by media practitioners through news reporting was still the main reference for the public to obtain accurate information even with many new media platforms that were proliferating at the moment.
"Media practitioners, both print and electronic, currently are facing challenges, especially in reporting the true facts and combating the spread of fake news in society.
I’m convinced that media practitioners, especially those in the state, hold on to journalism ethics in their news reporting,” Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said, adding that they also needed to work together in providing comprehensive news reports.
He also said that media practitioners acted as a connection for the federal and state governments in delivering agendas and objectives they wished to implement for the people.
"I hope that all media practitioners in the state can spread information regarding the organising of the Visit Perlis Year (TMPs) 2024-2025.
“The success of TMPs 2024-2025 will have an economic spillover effect for the people in the state, especially operators of hotels, homestays, eateries and those in the small and medium industry as well as other areas,” he added.
