KANGAR, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) will sponsor the tuition fee for a student from Palestine to pursue a master’s degree in mechatronics engineering and provide him with a monthly allowance.
In a statement tonight, UniMAP said the student Mohanad B. A Qubtan, 22, has completed a four-year bachelor’s degree course in the same field.
UniMAP Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Zaliman Sauli presented the offer letter to Mohanad after the third session of the university’s 18th Convocation, witnessed by the Regent of Perlis, who is also UniMAP Chancellor, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail recently.
“He (Mohanad) also expressed gratitude to Tuanku Raja Muda of Perlis for the concern shown by the Malaysian government, especially the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and UniMAP, towards Palestinian students in this country,” read the statement.
It said Mohanad had never returned home to Gaza while studying at the bachelor’s degree level to focus on his studies, as well as having financial difficulties.
Zaliman said in the statement that education was the best way to overcome all problems and called on the people to pray for peace to return to Palestine so that Mohanad could go home to meet his family.
