KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Eight media practitioners from various news organisations in India visited the headquarters of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) here to enhance their understanding and knowledge of the role played by the news agency.

The delegation, in Malaysia for a three-day visit starting Thursday (Nov 23) as part of the ASEAN-India Media Exchange Programme, received a briefing on Bernama's operations for almost an hour by Editor-In-Chief Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Deputy Editor-In-Chief (News Services) Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.

Also present at the discussion were Pawan Saharan, Publicity Officer of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs; N.P Singh, Second Secretary from the Indian High Commission to Malaysia, and several senior management staff of Bernama.

The Director of News at Akashvani (All India Radio) based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, Nilesh Kumar Kalbhor, who represented the delegation, expressed that the exchange of ideas and experiences during the visit is expected to be instrumental in shaping their approach to media practices in their respective regions.

“We had a fruitful interaction with the Bernama team and a good time understanding the functioning of Bernama as a news agency as well as a television channel. We have a lot of takeaways from these programmes, and hopefully, we will try to gain from this experience and use the knowledge,” he said, adding that the delegation had visited Indonesia before coming to Malaysia.

He also emphasised that the delegation sought insights into the culture and demographics of Indonesia and Malaysia.

“We came to know about the culture and demography of Indonesia and Malaysia. We have a lot of learning from these two countries about how the public behave and how the transport system and different systems function. It was a good experience,” he added.

The delegation commenced their visit by going to the International Division (Bahagian Antarabangsa) of the Ministry of Communications and Digital, and subsequently visited several other government agencies.

Other news agencies present included media practitioners from Indian news agency, Asian News International (ANI), Doordarshan (DD) News (an Indian public broadcast service), and Press Trust of India.
