Airasia Grocer, Bantu Heroes Launch Innovative Farming Programme At School

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- AirAsia Grocer collaborated with Bantu Heroes today to fulfil their first sustainability goal by launching 'The Little Green Fingers Project' (Bantu Farm), an innovative farming programme at REAL International and Private Schools, Cheras Campus.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Chan Foong Hin said the launch of Bantu Farm is to demonstrate the potential of integrating agriculture into the school curriculum by providing students with practical experiences and fostering a deeper understanding of farming practices at a young age.

He said the programme would show the younger generations that farming is a fun activity that can be practised anywhere, starting from school.

"We have consistently championed the involvement of youth in the sector.

"We also have introduced various projects, schemes and grants aimed not only at young entrepreneurs but also at schoolchildren and the broader local community," he said after launching the programme.

He said urban farming is not merely about cultivating crops within city limits but represents a paradigm shift in the approach to agriculture.

According to Chan, it is a recognition of the need to localise food production, reduce carbon footprint and build a more robust and resilient food supply chain.

In addition, the school will provide a wide range of programmes that introduce various curriculums incorporating experiential learning, fostering practical skills, critical thinking abilities and continuously providing innovative teaching approaches to empower students to focus on environmental sustainability projects.
