KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- The newly appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, is committed to ensuring that the agency generates impactful news reports to face the current challenges of the media industry.

The Kedah-born said she is determined to fulfil her duties to the best of her abilities, with the support of all levels, in order to drive success and meet the demands of clients and readers for accurate and trusted news and information.

“This is a milestone for my female journalist colleagues at Bernama because, after 56 years, we finally have a woman as the Editor-in-Chief. It is a huge task and a challenging responsibility.

“I also would like to express my gratitude to my late father, Kamaludin Abdul Razak, or AR Kamaludin, for providing encouragement and space to explore the field of journalism,” she said.

Bernama has announced the appointment of Nur-ul Afida, 56, as its new Editor-in-Chief, effective today.

This appointment creates history as she becomes the first woman to hold the position at the news agency since its establishment in 1967.

She takes over the post from Jamaluddin Muhammad, who was appointed as the agency’s chief executive officer on Oct 19.

Nur-ul Afida has extensive experience in the field of journalism and has held several key positions in Bernama, including Deputy Editor-in-Chief of News Services since June this year.

The daughter of a veteran journalist, the late AR Kamaludin, began her career as a reporter at Harian Nasional and joined Bernama in January 1985 as a cadet reporter.

Throughout her 38 years of service, Nur-ul Afida has held various roles within different departments and units in Bernama, including the General News Desk, Malay Subs Desk, Photo Unit and Feature and Strategic Writing Desk.

The former Bernama Head of Strategic Planning has also been contributing as a trainer at the Bernama School of Journalism since 2009.

Nur-ul Afida received her early education at Bukit Bintang Girls’ School and continued her studies at Form Six at Hasni Institute in 1986.

She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Universiti Teknologi MARA in 1993 and completed her Master’s degree in Communication Management from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2011.
