KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) is committed to continuing to care for single mothers, the elderly and Muslim converts through the “Ziarah Asnaf” programme in the federal capital.

The programme aims to provide assistance such as disaster relief, cash and kitchen food kits to ease their burden and today, it brings smiles to families of four recipients.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said the recipients today included a single mother who lived with six children in a dilapidated unit of the Sri Johor Public Housing.

It saddened me to see her living condition when I visited her, he said.

"I also visited the home of  Siti Khadijah Khamis, 40, a single mother who lives with three sons and three daughters in a house with only one room.

"During the visit, I suggested to MAIWP that she be moved to a bigger house because the children are grown-ups. It's a heartbreaking situation,” he told Bernama when met after the “Ziarah Asnaf” programme at the public housing here, today.

Mohd Na’im said that the donations given to the recipients were from the tithe collection by MAIWP and hoped that more individuals and corporate bodies would come forward to pay tithe zakat so that more needy people could benefit from it.

"The visit today is to find those who are in trouble and need help. There are various forms of assistance, including monthly rent, children's schooling and regular assistance such as monthly cash assistance.

"Today’s walkout is to respond to the call by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to eradicate hardcore poverty,” he added.

Meanwhile, MAIWP also presented a donation to Adlina Aisyah Ahmad Rusli, 41, the widow of Idris Abdol Talib@Ramali, one of the victims in the plane crash victim on the Guthrie Highway near Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam, last week.
