KOTA BHARU, June 13 (Bernama) -- The Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority (KADA) is planning to build two special pump houses, one each in Bachok and Pasir Puteh, which are expected to cost RM40 million to overcome irrigation problems in both the districts.
Its chairman, Muhamad Husain said discussions on the proposed construction of the pump houses had been held with the relevant parties, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
"The construction of the special pump houses in Bachok and Pasir Puteh, costing between RM15 million and RM20 million each, is expected to benefit around 3,000 farmers with a farming area covering 6,000 hectares," he told reporters at the KADA Headquarters here today.
He said several initiatives on helping the farmer, especially to eradicate poverty among them, had been proposed to the ministry.
"Most of the farmers in the KADA area are categorised as B40, so we want to make some changes to make agriculture a profitable sector and not only focus on padi farming,” he added.
