IPOH, June 6 (Bernama) -- The beauty of Lenggong Geopark's archaeological heritage as a unique cultural landscape will be included in Tourism Malaysia Perak's latest 48 special tour packages.
Tourism Malaysia Domestic and Events Division Senior Director Iskandar Mirza Mohd Yusof said the introduction of the Archeo Tourism Package and the Lenggong Valley Geopark was an initiative to promote Visit Perak Year (TMP) 2024.
He said that the Lenggong Geopark was nationally recognised on Dec 16, last year and was the second recognition in Perak after the Kinta Valley Geopark and so far the geopark has nine geoecological and five international geosites.
"A total of 48 tourism packages have been developed in collaboration with 15 tourism operators in the northern and central regions which, among others, offer visits to archaeological sites, hill climbing, cave exploration, boat cruises, fishing and camping.
"Among those gathered under this package include the Lenggong Geopark and Ecotourism Package, the Deer Grill and Fun Trip @ Lenggong Package, the Scientific Tour @ Lenggong Package, the Lenggong Heritage Tour Package, the Discover Historical & Cultural Geo Lenggong Package, the Lenggong Cave Tour & Eating Durian Package and Amazon Paddling Mini Package @Lenggong," he said during a press conference here today.
Iskandar Mirza said the new tourism package was a follow-up to a workshop and product tour for 4 days and 3 nights held in collaboration with the Central Zone National Heritage Department, Lenggong District Council and Tourism Perak with the involvement of 26 tour operators and geopark guides in December last year.
"The workshop looked at the potential of tourism in archaeological sites including interesting tourism products around the Lenggong Valley such as Kajang Cave, Teluk Kelawar Cave, Bukit Sapi, Bukit Jawa, Bukit Bunuh, Raja Mosque, Telaga Biru Springs and the Lenggong Valley Archaeological Gallery.
"We hope that the packages will be able to promote the uniqueness of the Lenggong Valley, which is recognised as an UNESCO World Heritage Site, to local and international tourists," he said.
He said the packages can also help the preservation of local heritage and culture in addition to developing the economy of the local community while intensifying sustainable tourism activities.
