KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) -- The Executive Committee on the National Food Security Policy has recommended that more parties should be involved in providing input related to food security in the country, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Fadillah said this included collaborations involving government agencies, academics, researchers and industry players.
"Another focus that was agreed on (in the meeting) was the issue involving animal feed and grain which have become increasingly difficult and expensive to obtain due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, on how it can be cultivated in the country,” he told reporters after presiding over the meeting at Menara Lembaga Pertubuhan Peladang here today.
He said the results of the meeting will be presented to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Meanwhile, according to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security issued following the meeting, the committee has been tasked to propose the direction of food security, submit proposals, and identify policy issues and challenges, strategies and government action plans.
It said it was set up following a decision made by the Cabinet on April 29, 2020, adding that Anwar has entrusted Fadillah to chair the committee beginning this year.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu is the committee’s co-chairman.
