KUCHING, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- The two-day World Engineering, Science and Technology Congress (ESTCON) 2022 which starts today will host experts in energy transition and transformation for a sustainable future globally.
According to Sarawak Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn, the congress would help with the implementation of the state's Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
“ESTCON 2022 is a platform for experts from diverse fields of research, innovation and commercialisation to discuss challenges and solutions related to future energy and the creation of smart communities.
“State policy is going towards environmental sustainability and green energy, so we are headed in the right direction,” he told reporters after officiating the congress organised by Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
Themed ‘Future Energy & Smart Communities’ -- in line with Petronas’ energy transition towards net zero carbon emissions -- the flagship event will have eight simultaneously held international conferences.
UTP vice-chancellor and ESTCON 2022 chairman, Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, said during his opening speech that the congress has attracted around 800 participants and delegates from 17 countries comprising academics, researchers, scientists, engineers and industry experts.
“By building bridges between researchers, academia and industry, and linking innovative minds across disciplines, we hope that ESTCON 2022 will provide an inspiring and innovative platform to exchange and develop knowledge which will lead to enduring collaborations,” he said.
The congress enjoys the support of the Sarawak state government; Ministry of Higher Education; Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation; Academy of Sciences Malaysia; Human Resources Development Corporation and Malaysia Board of Technologists.
It will have speakers who will share their knowledge on trends and issues related to energy transition and smart communities.
There will also be forums touching on topics like ‘The Role of Hydrogen Economy in Tackling the Energy Trilemma’; ‘The Impact of the Energy Transition on Petroleum Engineering and Geoscience Graduates’ and ‘Powering Circular Economy and Smart Cities Through Blockchain Technology’.
