JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- The Johor state government is ready to help residents in Johor Bahru and Iskandar Puteri who were affected by the storm at 3.30 pm today through the state disaster fund.
State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said so far 20 houses in Kampung Pasir, 21 units of terraced houses in Taman Tun Aminah here and 19 units of Pekaka Flats in Iskandar Puteri have been found to have roof damage due to the storm.
He said however no temporary evacuation centre (PPS) has been opened following the incident, adding that the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) and Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) squads acted speedily to help clean residents' homes.
“For flats, it may be possible to use the disaster fund to repair the damages immediately, that is the state government's responsibility ...private houses, usually at the district office level, can use the fund as well,” he said when visiting the affected homes in Kampung Pasir here tonight.
Also present were MBJB Mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman and Iskandar Puteri Member of Parliament Liew Chin Tong.
Meanwhile, Mohd Jafni said the affected residents need to make a police report and list all damages before referring to the village head and penghulu (chieftain) for further action.
