KOTA BHARU, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- A total of 823 subdistrict and village headmen in Kelantan has registered to the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme under the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) today.
Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the participation of the headmen in the scheme was funded by the state government as a token of appreciation for their services.
“These headmen can be described as frontliners for solving various issues related to the local community.
“Normally, they use motorcycles to travel around the subdistrict or village where they may be exposed to various unwanted risks like accidents,” he said after handing over the two-month premium for the 823 headmen totalling RM31,931.40 to the Kelantan SOCSO director Nora Yaacob.
Mohd Amar added that through this scheme, the welfare of those headmen is well-assured and the family can also get adequate help and protection from the government in case of accident or death.
