Keluarga Malaysia Sale well-received by over 2,000 visitors in Kuala Klawang

JELEBU, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- About 2,000 residents flooded Dataran Kampung Sarin, Kuala Klawang as early as 8 am in conjunction with the Keluarga Malaysia Cheap Sale programme.

The sale involves Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad (Mydin), entrepreneurs from the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (RISDA) as well as several local entrepreneurs selling a variety of essentials at low prices.

Items included over 1,000 frozen chickens and packs of cooking oil were sold out this afternoon, with the price of chicken per unit being RM11.60 compared to the market price of RM14.50 and cooking oil at RM2 per kilogramme (kg) packet, and 5 kg cooking oil at RM24.72 (instead of RM 30.90).

Also, sugar was sold at RM2.28 compared to the market price of RM2.85, Gardenia Jumbo bread iat RM3.44 (RM 4.30); red chilli at RM 3.59 for 500g (RM4.49); green bird's eye chilli at RM1.83 per 100g (RM2.29).

Mahmood Sadeli, 66, said the programme benefitted consumers and helped them save on monthly expenses.

"Villagers do not earn the same income as city folks and I hope programmes like this are implemented more often," he said.

P. Ramasamy, 54, who buys necessities for his family of five, said the cheap sale programme helped reduce the monthly cost of his daily expenses.

"A programme like this has an impact and can help B40 people like me because the price is very economical, with a discount of almost 20 per cent compared to the market price, especially basic goods such as sugar, flour, cooking oil and rice," he said.

Meanwhile, Federal Territories Deputy Minister, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, said the programme will continue to reduce the burden on the people.

He said it is the government's responsibility to ensure that all citizens regardless of race and income be helped consistently to ensure that nobody is left out of enjoying government initiatives.
