UTeM develops small-scale battery research centre

MELAKA, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) has developed a small-scale battery manufacturing research centre thus making it the first university in the country to have such a  facility.

Its vice-chancellor Prof Dr Massila Kamalrudin said the project was one of the main agendas in the collaboration framework with the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (Tubitak).

"This proactive step is in line with UTeM’s area of expertise and for the university to continue to stand out in research and innovation at the world level.

"The development of this project was indirectly seen to have been able to attract investment, especially in Melaka and Malaysia," she said in a statement here today.

Elaborating, Massila said the project would also generate a direct impact chain for UTeM students to take the opportunity to gain deeper knowledge in technology involving advanced engineering.

She said UTeM and Tubitak also aimed to share expertise in high-impact research that is currently in demand in the world.

"This project is focused on applied research and small-scale manufacturing of batteries and robotics for inspection of gas pipelines, water leakage and pipe corrosion.

"This matter was also detailed during UTeM's visit to Gebze, Turkey, recently, led by Melaka governor  Tun Mohd Ali Rustam who is also UTeM chancellor and Malaysian consulate general in Istanbul Tengku Mohd Dzaraif Raja Abdul Kadir," she said.
