BATU PAHAT, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- The skills and expertise owned by institutions of higher learning need to benefit local communities through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said CSR programmes could strengthen existing partnerships between agencies under her ministry and universities, especially in efforts to benefit local communities.
She said her ministry had many experts in various fields, including education, community economy, sustainability and green technology, community skills development, social prosperity and health.
“The Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) implements CSR activities through the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) UNiTY programme, which focuses on technology and knowledge transfer as well as sharing to local communities through social activities based on the TVET field.
“The TVET UNiTY @ Parit Sulong programme is implemented in 43 areas in the Parit Sulong parliamentary constituency and involves 16 MOHE agencies, including Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiri Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), four polytechnics and seven community colleges in Johor,” she said in a statement today.
