MELAKA, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- There was a big turnout to purchase essential items at cheaper prices at the Keluarga Malaysia Cheap Sales (Jualan Murah Keluarga Malaysia /JKMK) programme, held in conjunction with the Melaka edition of the Keluarga Malaysia Aspirations Tour (AKM Tour),
A visitor, Hasanah Atan, 55, said she was willing to travel with her family from Batu Pahat, Johor, just to purchase items such as onions and others at the AKM Tour held at Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC).
“Big onions are sold here at RM2 per kilogramme but it’s more expensive if we purchase it elsewhere. So, if we buy in bulk, it's a big saving for us. I like this JMKM programme and hope it will continue in the future,” she told Bernama here today.
Sharing a similar sentiment, Abd Wahab Mamat, 75, from Durian Tunggal, Alor Gajah, said the prices of items offered were worthwhile for the whole family.
“I brought my grandchildren for the colouring contest and walkabout and happened to spot the JMKM programme and so I bought chicken for RM7.49 per kilogramme, cheaper than the market at RM9.20.
“Fresh prawns here are also sold at RM26.90 per kilogramme and many necessities are sold at lower prices," he said.
Meanwhile, Melaka Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNEHP) director Norena Jaafar said the buyers are offered discounts of up to 30 per cent at the three-day Melaka AKM Tour, which entered its second day today.
The programme involved two wholesalers in the state offering a wide variety of necessities such as chicken, sugar, wheat flour, one-kilogramme cooking oil pack, dried chillies and others,
“Besides daily necessities, the programme also offer dry kitchen essentials with a combo pack priced at only RM20,” she added.
