Porphyritic granite rock area in Gunung Bujang Melaka still off limits

03/10/2022 07:51 PM

IPOH, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- The porphyritic granite rock area in Gunung Bujang Melaka, Kampar is still not open to the public as has gone viral on social media recently.

State Housing, Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi said there was information circulating that the area had been opened to the public and that a fee was imposed for those entering the site.

“Right now the information that has gone viral states that the area is open and a fee of RM5 per person is being imposed. This is not true because the landowner has not permitted anyone to enter.

“Even the entrance is through the restricted area of the Perak Water Board (LAP) and upgrading works are still being carried out, so no entry is allowed,” she said when met by reporters after launching the Perak Box Office ticketing platform here today.

According to her, all facilities in the area are only for private use and the owner is responsible for any untoward incidents because the granite rock area is on private land.

“The site owner has yet to give permission because many things need to be taken into account, especially the safety factor, and the state government cannot force the landowner on this matter.

“I have also gone up there and it’s true the bridge to go up there is not suitable because it is only for personal use and not for tourists. This is what the owner is worried about,” she said.

She said the state Parks Corporation, state Economic Planning Unit, Tourism Perak and Department of Minerals and Geosciences Malaysia had surveyed the area to make it a new geosite.

“We always work together with the owner and discussions are ongoing because only if the owner permits will we enter and the state government will provide appropriate assistance.

“We will wait for the report and research to be completed, then we will be informed by the departments and agencies involved,” she said.
