KOTA KINABALU, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- A total of RM186.4 million in handicraft sales was recorded for the first eight months of this year (January-August), Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation (Kraftangan Malaysia) director-general `Ainu Sham Ramli said.
The figure represents 93.2 per cent of this year's sales target, which had been set at RM200 million, she added.
"The initiatives that have been implemented have resulted in a positive impact on the achievements of the national craft industry as a whole. Looking at this achievement, I am confident that the target set until December can be achieved," she said when opening the Festival Kraf Borneo 2022 Sabah here today.
She said the handicraft community has also increased to 26,054 people until August this year compared to 25,592 people last year.
Ainu Sham also said 58 handicraft entrepreneurs are involved in the 18-day festival that began on Sept 23 at 1Borneo Hypermall here.
"This is the third time the festival has been organised by Kraftangan Malaysia in the state and the festival is targeting RM400,000 in sales and 30,000 visitors," she added.
