KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Malaysia today hosted its Charity Golf Championship 2022 at Tropicana Golf and Country Resort which successfully raised close to RM500,000 in funds for the ‘Back-to-School’ programme.
RMHC Malaysia president Datuk Azmir Jaafar who is also McDonald’s Malaysia managing director and local operating partner said the amount raised was the highest ever since the inception of the annual golf championship which is now in its 29th edition.
“The funds raised will be part of the RM1.5 million worth of school essentials to be distributed to primary school children from B40 families and underprivileged children across Malaysia,” he said in a statement.
He said RMHC hoped that the distribution of the school packs would ease the financial burden of the children’s families, as the start of the new school year rolls around.
“These children deserve to start the new school year with joy, excitement and motivation.
“RMHC Malaysia believes that education is the fundamental right of every child. With this financial aid in the form of school packs, the children can focus on their education and continue to hone their creativity and knowledge to reach their fullest potential.
“Every child’s life is important and RMHC Malaysia strives to help as many underserved families as possible in improving the health of their children. We hope the funds can ease the families’ financial burden while fulfilling their medical needs,” Azmir added.
RMHC Malaysia aims to better the lives of the underprivileged children, aligned with its core pillars of Health, Education and Welfare, he said.
He said this year’s event was made even more special with the presentation of medical grants to four welfare funds in selected hospitals namely National Heart Institute (IJN) Foundation, Tabung Pesakit Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM), Tabung Pesakit Hospital Tunku Azizah (HTA) and Tabung Pesakit Hospital Pakar Kanak-Kanak (HPKK) Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
“These grants will be given to children ages from 1 to 18, who are in need of financial assistance to undergo medical treatment, or to purchase medical equipment or medication”, he said.
As of last year, Azmir said nearly RM10 million had been raised for the ‘Back-to-School’ programme, which had positively impacted the lives of more than 100,000 children nationwide.
RMHC Malaysia has been providing medical grants to children welfare funds since 2018, amounting to about RM470,000 to date.
