KUALA NERUS, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) alumni has successfully secured a spot in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR), by building the largest globe structure at the Redang Marine Park Centre, here today.
UPSI vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff said that the three-metre high globe, weighing over one tonne, was built and lowered by 10 alumni members to a depth of 11 metres on the seabed.
He said that it aims to help the efforts of the Department of Fisheries and other agencies in the preservation and conservation of coral reefs in the marine park area, which was destroyed by the tropical storm Pabuk in January 2019.
“This effort is also a dedication to demonstrate the alumni members’ love for the university.
“We hope that this effort inspires other alumni members to also contribute and further enhance the name of the university,” he said in a statement today.
