Incentive vouchers for purchase of local handicrafts to resume from Sept 16 - MOTAC

14/09/2022 10:56 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- Incentive vouchers for the purchase of Malaysian handicraft products will be continued again from Sept 16 in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebration with an allocation of RM3 million.

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) in a statement said the incentive has been reintroduced under the Tourism Recovery Plan 2022 following the success of a similar initiative which had directly benefited the craft community after sales of RM21.7 million was generated.

According to MOTAC, earlier this year the ministry through Kraftangan Malaysia provided voucher incentives amounting to RM3.8 million to the public, by giving away vouchers worth RM30 for every purchase worth RM100.

This time around, the vouchers can be used at promotional programmes organised by Malaysian Crafts such as the Borneo Craft Festival in Sabah; Borneo Textile Craft Festival in Sarawak, Johor Craft Festival and Langkawi Craft Festival; craft sales centres and galleries at Kraftangan Malaysia branches nationwide.

In addition, the vouchers are applicable for promotional programmes organised by Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex; Langkawi Craft Complex and Johor Craft Complex; as well as all Karyaneka outlets at Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Langkawi Craft Complexes, Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi International Airports, the Parliament, MyCraftShoppe and Karyaneka digital platforms.

MOTAC hopes that the government initiative through Kraftangan Malaysia will be able to revive the country's craft industry while helping local craft entrepreneurs increase their income and improve their socioeconomic status.
