PEMANIS calls on schools to hold more programmes on country's independence history

17/08/2022 07:18 PM

KANGAR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Persatuan Melayu Negeri Perlis (PEMANIS) has called for more programmes related to the country’s history of independence to be held in schools.

Its president Datuk Mat Zain Hamzah said programmes such as historical storytelling are essential, especially for the younger generation, to help them appreciate the sacrifices of freedom fighters and increase their dedication to continuing to uphold the dignity of the country.

“We inherited this country in peace and never felt the hardships that our ancestors had to go through, so let’s all protect the sovereignty of the country,” he told Bernama after officiating at the closing ceremony of the Historical Storytelling Programme 2022 here today.

Mat Zain also reminded Malaysians to continuously strengthen their identity in the face of today’s and future challenges because colonialism can still happen in the form of thoughts and ideologies that, if left unchecked, will destroy a nation.

He added that the family institution is the main contributor to shaping the personality and identity of the future generation.

“Parents are an important element in the development of children’s personality apart from society and teachers at school,” he said.
