06/08/2022 12:11 PM

PHUKET, (THAILAND) Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Advanced Acute Internal Medicine and Ultrasound Society (MAAIMUSS) is looking into the possibility of expanding the medical practice using ultrasound technology to Phuket, Thailand.

Its president Datuk Seri Dr Paras Doshi said Phuket regional health representatives have shown interest in seeking the expertise of MAAIMUSS and the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital (HTF) in Kangar, Perlis, to implement the method at their facilities.

“They were amazed by HTF’s success in introducing this medical treatment that can save cost, time and lives,” he told reporters at a pocket event under the Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council of Perlis’ (MAIPs) Ziarah Mahabbah Programme 2022 last night.

Dr Paras said HTF was the pioneer of the medical ultrasound practice in Malaysia since 2020, adding that further discussion on the cooperation would be held soon.

At the event, the Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also the Royal Patron of MAAIMUSS also presented a token of appreciation to Vachira Phuket Hospital deputy director Dr Lersak Leenanithikul and Phuket Public Health Office medical officer Dr Somsuk Sumparnprateep.

Dr Paras who is also Advanced Acute Internal Medicine consultant at HTF, said through the method, the hospital was able to save RM5.5 million from July 2020 to Dec last year.

He added that medical ultrasound can also expedite time in the process of diagnosing patients.

“Patients do not need to be admitted to the hospital to do a health check-up and it helps reduce the bed occupancy rate at HTF by 20 per cent,” Dr Paras said.

A 35-member delegation from Perlis, including from MAIPs, department heads and media members are on a three-day visit to Phuket, Thailand.
