BALING, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Pelajaran MARA (YPM) has distributed schooling aid worth RM45,000 to 300 students from three schools affected by floods that hit the district on July 4.
Its chairman Datuk Mohd Razman Yaacob said the donation in the form of RM150 cash for each student was aimed at helping to ease the financial burden faced by their families in providing school supplies.
“The students involved are from Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Kupang, Sekolah Menengah Agama Yayasan Khairiah and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Jerai.
“It is hoped that this aid can motivate them to continue studying, obtain excellent results in examinations and pursue their education to a higher level,” he told reporters after presenting the aid to SMK Jerai students here today.
Elaborating, he said the aid was channelled through allocations under YPM’s Special Education Assistance Scheme, which targets students affected by disasters, as well as those from the B40 group.
Meanwhile, Mohd Razman said as of June, YPM has channelled almost RM1.5 million to nearly 14,500 students nationwide through the scheme.
“YPM is deeply concerned about the flood victims’ situation and is committed to providing schooling assistance to those in need,” he said.
The recent floods and water surge phenomenon affected several villages in Kupang and claimed three lives, including a pregnant woman.
