KPLB COMMITTED TO IMPLEMENTING SUSTAINABLE ENERGY PROGRAMME

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB) is committed to supporting the government's policy in ensuring the country achieves zero carbon status by 2050 through several programmes implemented by its agencies. 

Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said that in the near future MARA will discuss with Tenaga Nasional Berhad about the installation of solar energy panels on the roof of all 55 MARA Junior Science Colleges nationwide.

"The programme aimed at encouraging the use of sustainable energy at MRSM is expected to be launched within two months," he told reporters after officiating the Sustainable Energy Forum - Achieving Carbon Neutral Towards 2050 at the Universiti Kuala Lumpur British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI) in Gombak near here today. 

According to Mahdzir, for rural areas, KPLB implements the Rural Electricity Supply programme (BELB), especially in the interiors of Sabah, Sarawak and the Peninsula.

He said this year more than RM200 million was allocated for the development of rural solar energy under  BELB.

SIBU MUNICIPAL COUNCIL MAKES PREPARATIONS FOR NEXT YEAR'S BCF

SIBU: Despite only having drawn its curtains last Saturday, the Sibu Municipal Council (MPS) has already started planning next year’s edition of the Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF). 

Its chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horgh said the meeting to organise the party, which is planned for July 14 to 29 next year, will be held this September.

"When we have confirmed the dates this September, we will write a letter to the Tourism Ministry because the Minister and Deputy Minister of Tourism asked us to inform them in advance,” said Ting.

According to him, with earlier preparations, invitations to external participants will be made.

He said this while presiding over the MPS monthly plenary meeting here today.

PAHANG TO HOLD INTERNATIONAL CANOE RACE THIS SEPTEMBER

KUANTAN: Pahang will host the country's largest international standard canoe race, the 2022 Pahang Ocean Paddle International Challenge Malaysia from Sept 7-12

State Tourism, Culture, Environment, Plantation and Commodity Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin said the race, which is expected to be attended by 500 participants from within and outside the country, is also understood to be the first to be held in the Southeast Asian region.

"This approximately 74-kilometre race has five stages starting at Hiburan Beach in Rompin and Lagenda Beach in Pekan in addition to Balok Beach, Cherating Beach and Teluk Cempedak Beach in Kuantan.

The most challenging route is at Teluk Cempedak Beach because it is 18 kilometres long (km ) compared to other locations that are about 14 kilometres long each.

40 PER CENT DISCOUNT FOR PAHANG FOUNDATION EDUCATION LOAN REPAYMENT

KUANTAN: The Pahang Government through the Pahang Foundation is offering a 40 per cent discount on the repayment of the foundation's education loans in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of its establishment this year.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the discount was given to borrowers who repay in full the loan balance, including other charges, from Aug 1 to Dec 31, 2022.

"This is also implemented to help the majority of the people, including borrowers who are affected by COVID-19 and the current increase in the cost of living," he said in a statement here today.

Since its establishment in 1982 until now, Yayasan Pahang has spent as much as RM1.4 billion on education loans involving 1.684 million beneficiaries throughout Pahang.

67 PJKMs IMPLEMENTED TO HELP PEOPLE GET CHEAP ESSENTIAL ITEMS

MELAKA: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) in Melaka has held 67 Keluarga Malaysia Sales Programmes (PJKM) until June 31 in all parliamentary constituencies in the state since it was first introduced earlier this year.

State Unity, Information, Human Resources and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Ngwe Hee Sem said the purpose of the programme was to ensure that targeted groups get daily necessities at a price lower than the market price by up to 20 per cent.

"In addition, the inspection of Op ATM (Chicken, Eggs and Cooking Oil) under Op Catut 9.0 (Pure Cooking Oil) was also conducted to ensure that producers, wholesalers and retailers do not take advantage by raising prices and that there is no hoarding as well,” he said at the Melaka State Legislative Assembly meeting here today.
