40 SPM 2021 outstanding students awarded Sabah excellence scholarship

KOTA KINABALU, July 26 (Bernama) -- Forty students from all over Sabah who excelled in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination last year received Sabah Excellence Scholarship, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

In this regard, he wants the recipients of the scholarship under Yayasan Sabah to use this golden opportunity to acquire further knowledge, especially on creativity and innovative values as a catalyst for the development of the state.

"Do not be complacent as such top achievers should strive to attain an even higher level,” he said at the presentation of the scholarship at Menara Tun Mustapha here today.

Also present was Sabah’s Minister of Special Functions Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, and Yayasan Sabah director, Datuk Seri Gulamhaidar Khan.

Hajiji, who is also Yayasan Sabah Board of Trustees chairman said so far 675 Sabah students had benefitted from the prestigious scholarship amounting to RM115.8 million.

He said the state government’s continuous commitment in providing various education assistance for eligible students would continue to be supported under Sabah Maju Jaya’s strategic plan for the development of education.

Meanwhile, a recipient, Mordecai Sierran Rugag, 18, who obtained 11A in the last SPM wants to use the scholarship to continue furthering his studies at Manipal University College Malaysia (MUCM).

The youngest of three siblings, he pledged to work hard to realise his ambition as a doctor.

In this regard, Amanda Cheryl Wong, 18, wants to study dentistry after completing her Science Foundation at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in Dengkil, Selangor.

The youngest of two siblings was also on a scholarship from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kian Kok from Form One to Five.

"It is the support of my parents and teachers that spurred me to study hard for the 10A,” said the girl from a B40 family.
