MELAKA, July 25 (Bernama) -- The Women and Children’s Hospital (KRIBA) to be built at the Melaka Nursing College is expected to reduce patient congestion at Melaka Hospital.

State Health and Anti-Drugs Committee chairman Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said KRIBA, which is expected to be operational in 2030, will have 476 beds.

“The project has been approved by the federal government and is now at the budget level under the Economic Planning Unit.

“Construction will start in 2025 but the state government has appealed for the project to be expedited,” he said when replying to a question by Datuk Lim Ban Hong (BN-Kelebang) at the Melaka state assembly sitting at Seri Negeri here today.

Dr Muhamad Akmal also said that to make it easier for patients to get treatment from specialist doctors, the state government had created cluster hospitals at the Jasin and Alor Gajah hospitals.

“In the past, specialist doctors may have come on a visiting basis (at Jasin and Alor Gajah Hospitals), but now we put them on a resident basis,” he said, while adding that at Jasin Hospital, there are six specialist doctors and four at Alor Gajah Hospital.
