Bernama honours 152 long-serving employees and retirees

KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) today feted 152  of its long-serving employees and retirees at an appreciation ceremony.

Held at Wisma Bernama here, the event themed, “Jasamu Dikenang” (Your Deeds Remembered), 101 employees who have served the news agency for 15 to 35 years, each received the Long-Service Award.

The other 51 who had retired since 2019 and recently included two editors-in-chief, Abdul Rahman Ahmad, fondly called Ara, and Khairdzir Md Yunus, as well as deputy editor-in-chief (News Services), Ahmad Fuad Yahya.

The certificates of appreciation or both the certificates and cash awards were handed out to the recipients by Bernama chairman, Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi, its acting chief executive officer, Roslan Ariffin and deputy editor-in-chief (International News Services), Jamaluddin Muhammad.

Earlier, Ras Adiba in her speech, expressed her appreciation for the sacrifices and contributions of these Bernama employees, especially those whose services with the agency have come to an end.

She said the media industry was indebted to those from Bernama who have helped shape the media industry in this country.

“You were all my teachers when I started working with TV3, with many of you not realising that you had been guiding me.

“Hence, I wish to thank you all for what you have done, your contributions not just to Bernama but to the whole country, especially through journalism and broadcasting,” she said.

Roslan, in his welcoming speech, said the people at Bernama were the most precious asset in ensuring that the news agency remained relevant as a medium for channelling information to the ‘rakyat’.

“Indeed, all their efforts, energy and sacrifices, directly and indirectly, have helped shape Bernama to its current position since its establishment.

“We have together gone through various challenges and successes, and InsyaAllah (God willing), these will remain etched in the history of Bernama. Your contributions and services will always be remembered,” he added.

Bernama officers and staff involved in organising the National Journalists Day (Hawana) 2022 celebration were also feted at the afternoon tea event which was followed by a durian party.
