Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, in his speech, thanked the federal government for taking the  initiative in realising the project to replace the old Kangar Court.

"The opening of this Kangar Court Complex opens a new chapter and history in the administration of the country's judicial system and will be a new landmark in Perlis,” he said.

The new three-storey court complex, which houses a High Court, two Sessions Courts and two Magistrate’s Courts, was completed on Nov 15 last year.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also hoped that the new court complex would be a catalyst for other developments in the surrounding areas.

"I hope that development programmes that have been planned in the surrounding area can give a new image to Kangar and indirectly improve the economy of the people of Perlis," he added.

He also called on all quarters to respect and preserve the principles on the independence of the judiciary and not to make baseless accusations against judges or judicial officers.

Judges and judicial officers, he said, should have ethics and maintain their integrity, as well as to ensure the decision the made made is always based on justice and fairness and without fear or favour.

"If a decision is made based on the law and correct facts, I am confident that the decision will be well received by all parties," he said.

He also  called on all quarters, including civil servants, politicians, private bodies, non -governmental organisations (NGOs) and the public, to unite in efforts to eradicate corruption in the country.

“If this culture is not eradicated, it will damage the entire administrative system and society, both politically, economically and socially," he added.
