BAGAN SERAI, June 30 (Bernama) -- The people are urged to make agriculture a new economic growth catalyst as currently been done by developed countries, said Deputy Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh.
He said the effort, among others, would increase the income of the family and the country if implemented with detailed planning.
"This can boost the country's progress in the field of agriculture and also will ensure food security," he told a press conference after visiting the Gunung Semanggol/Selinsing Area Farmers’ Organisation (PPK) here today.
Meanwhile, he said the government did not plan to import more chicken as the supply was expected to be sufficient.
He added that the government has collaborated with several government agencies such as National Farmers' Organisation (Nafas), Farmers Organisation Authority (LPP) and Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa) to carry out commercial chicken farming activities.
