Pendang Hospital 98 pct complete - Awang Hashim

ALOR SETAR, June 29 (Bernama) -- The construction of Pendang Hospital is now 98 per cent complete and is expected to be officiated at the end of this year, said Pendang Member of Parliament Datuk Awang Hashim.

He also said the implementation of the project is on schedule and according to the agreed plan.

“Every two or three months I will visit the site to see the progress of this project. During my visit yesterday, I can see that everything is running smoothly and I am confident that the hospital will be fully operational in 2023.

“We expect the hospital to be officially launched at the end of 2022 but it may be brought forward to enable the people of Pendang to use the facilities and amenities provided there,” he said when asked to comment about the progress of the project.

Awang, who is also the Deputy Human Resource Minister said as the elected representative for Pendang, he wanted to make sure that the residents in the district have quick access to much better health services.

“Before this, they have to go to hospitals located in other districts like the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB), Alor Setar and the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) in Sungai Petani for treatment but now the Pendang Hospital is about to be operational, it can help reduce their travelling costs,” he said.

 Awang added that the semi-specialist health facility will be furnished with high-technology equipment that will benefit residents in the district who are generally not well off.

The new hospital that is being built on a 17-hectare land in Kampung Banggol Pauh will have 126 beds which should be able to solve the problem of residents having to travel to HSB for treatment.

Earlier, Awang officiated the ‘Northern Region Tripartite Structured Dialogue Programme 2022’, an initiative to develop skilled human capital and increase the employability of Technical and Vocational Education and Training graduates in facing new challenges.
