Unimas has potential to produce experts in modern agriculture to help tackle food crisis - Abang Jo

KUCHING, June 27 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) has the potential to play a more significant role in producing experts in modern agriculture which are increasingly needed following the current food supply crisis in the country, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said.

However, he said the commitment from all Unimas staff and graduates would be required to achieve the government’s aspiration to facilitate the development of expertise in the field.

“The government needs you to bring your commitment to life and drive sustainable expertise in your respective fields,” he said at Unimas Commemorative Convocation here today.

Abang Johari, who is also Unimas Pro-Chancellor, said since Sarawak has vast land resources, the state should be able to become an exporter rather than an importer of food.

“With the technological advances in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, university students should be more creative and always look for opportunities and solutions in future situations,” he added.

A total of 3,695 graduates received their respective scrolls at the convocation.
