GOF NABS MAN, SEIZES SMUGGLED DECORATIVE TREES 

KOTA BHARU: The 8th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) detained a man and seized eight decorative jungle trees which were believed to have been smuggled from Thailand worth RM80,000 near Kampung Kijang in Tanah Merah, early this morning.

GOF South East Brigade commander, Datuk Hasan Basri Ahmad Safar said a GOF Strike Force team on patrol spotted and stopped a Volvo lorry leaving an illegal jetty near the village at 2.30 am.

"An inspection found several decorative jungle trees which were believed to have been smuggled in from Thailand and the 39-year-old driver had been hired to deliver the trees to Johor,” he said in a statement, today.

He said the driver and all items seized including the lorry worth RM350,000 were taken to the Lalang Pepupu Police Station for further action and the case would be investigated under Section 84(1) of the National Forestry Act 1984 (Amendment 1993).

POLICE OFFICER KILLED IN CRASH

KUALA LUMPUR: A police officer riding a motorcycle was killed after he was run over by a lorry in an incident at the 11th kilometre of the Cheras-Kajang Highway heading towards the national capital, yesterday evening.

Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Azman Shariat said the victim was identified as Mohd Farhan Zahari, 28, an inspector stationed at the Subang Jaya district police headquarters.

"Preliminary investigation found that the victim tried to overtake the lorry driven by a 30-year-old local man via the left road shoulder at 4.45 pm.

"However, the victim was run over after his motorcycle went out of control on the sandy road and ended in front of the left-back tyre of the lorry. The lorry was travelling in the correct lane,” he said in a statement today.

MISSING TEENAGE GIRL FOUND IN SELANGOR

IPOH: A 16-year-old girl who was reported missing in Bercham here seven days ago was found in Selangor this evening.

Ipoh district police chief ACP Yahaya Hassan said the police were informed of Maizatul Asikin Abdullah’s presence at a restaurant in Sungai Buloh by the public at about 3 pm.

"The police are on their way to bring her home here. She was found safe and sound,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
