DBKL DENIES APPOINTING SCIB TO REPLACE STREET LAMP POSTS
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) today denied appointing Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd (SCIB) to carry out work for the agency as claimed in several media reports.
“DBKL has never given permission to any quarter to appoint SCIB or any of its subsidiary companies to carry out any work on behalf of DBKL,” it said in a statement today.
Prior to this, there were media reports alleging that SCIB, through its fully owned subsidiary company, SCIB Properties Sdn Bhd, had received an appointment letter for engineering, acquisition, construction and operation contracts (EPCC) worth RM30.75 million from Ennova Sdn Bhd involving the replacements of 200 utility poles in the Klang Valley for DBKL.
The project engineering service for the replacement of DBKL’s integrated smart light poles, expected to start this month and end in May 2023, sparked a debate about the value of the contract and several parties have requested that DBKL provide an explanation over the matter.
DBKL stated that it had appointed 29 panel companies that possessed network facilities provider (NFP) licenses since 2013 to replace street lamps with integrated telecommunication transmission street lamps around Kuala Lumpur.
“The costs of replacing the street lamps is borne entirely by the panel company. The bi-functional street lamps are those integrated with telecommunication transmitters.
“Whatever contract or quantity stated by SCIB is beyond the knowledge of DBKL,” the statement read.
The rationale behind the bi-function street lamps was to boost the telecommunication service in Kuala Lumpur with 5G network and improve the coverage for users in the capital, DBKL added.

OP KESAN: SOCSO ISSUES 1,124 COMPOUNDS AGAINST ERRANT EMPLOYERS
TAPAH: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) has issued 1,124 compounds against employers who failed to submit contributions from 5,579 inspections under Op Kesan since it was launched on Wednesday.
Its chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said 833 compounds were issued based on the Employees Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) while 291 more were under the Employment Insurance System Act 2017 (Act 800).
“Eight compliance orders were also issued. Also, almost 20 per cent of employers visited have yet to register and submitted contributions for their staff.
“So, we will boost efforts and mobilise manpower nationwide to visit employers and ensure they register and make contributions for the workers so that they have a social safety net in case of mishaps resulting in injury or death while on duty,” he said when met by reporters at the 2022 Malaysian Family Work Assurance Career Carnival here today.
