LABUAN, May 26 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territory of Labuan Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has channeled an allocation of RM810,000 for the construction of 12 houses for tithe recipients (asnaf) over the past five years.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary said during the period, a total of 24 houses were repaired and upgraded with an allocation of RM779, 915.00.
Ahmad Marzuk said the government through MAIWP would continue to channel aid to the asnaf group.
"We will go down to the ground in search of those in need of help as this is MAIWP's commitment to ensuring that the group are given the necessary assistance," he told reporters after handing over Labuan MAIWP housing aid in Kg Ganggarak today.
He said construction work on the houses was slowed down in the past two years following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ahmad Marzuk said adapting to the syariah-compliant standards for housing, each house is built with three rooms, a bathroom, toilet, living room and a kitchen.
In addition, he said some 3,950 tithe recipients in Labuan receive monthly assistance of between RM400 and RM800 involving a monthly allocation of RM1.7 million.
