KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 (Bernama) -- Ten athletes from the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) and Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) who won medals at the just concluded 31st SEA Games in Vietnam were honoured by Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein at a ceremony here today.
Hishammuddin congratulated the athletes for enhancing the country’s name.
"It is hoped that your success in winning medals would spur you to further excellence when representing the country in the future,’” he said at the ministry’s Aidilfitri celebration at Kem Kementah here.
Hishammuddin presented the successful athletes with a challenge coin each.
At the games, MAF athletes won two gold, five silver and eight bronze medals while UPNM athletes collected four golds and one bronze.
At the ceremony, Hishammuddin also gave “duit raya” to staff, veterans and members of Persatuan Suri dan Anggota Wanita Perkhidmatan Awam Malaysia (Puspanita), and Maahad Tahfiz students from Taman Keramat.
Also present were Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz, Defence Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Muez Abd Aziz, Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang, Chief of Army Gen Tan Sri Zamrose Mohd Zain, Chief of Navy Admiral Tan Sri Mohd Reza Mohd Sany and Chief of Air Force Gen Datuk Seri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan.
