ASF-infected pig disposal cost RM20,000 - N. Sembilan Exco

13/04/2022 10:59 PM

PORT DICKSON, April 13 (Bernama) -- The disposal of all 273 pigs infected with African Swine Fever (ASF) in Kampung Baru Tanah Merah Site A, near here, involved a cost of RM20,000.

Negeri Sembilan Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Action Committee chairman, Datuk Bakri Sawir, said the cost involved a farm infected with the ASF outbreak and 55 personnel on duty in the disposal operation which ended at 5 pm today.

He said his team is still monitoring all 19 unlicensed farms near the infected farm due to fears of pigs on those farms being infected too.

“Samples will be collected from tomorrow, and test results will be known in 24 hours. If there is an ASF infection, the disposal (of pigs) will be done within a radius of three kilometres from the location of the infection,” he told reporters after the opening ceremony of the Negeri Sembilan Fisheries Department’s Turtle Conservation Outreach programme, at Glory Beach Resort here today.

Meanwhile, he said that legal action against the unlicensed farms has yet to be determined, and compounds will be issued to recalcitrant breeders.
