30/03/2022 01:42 PM

BANGI, March 30 (Bernama) -- The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) today launched the Smart Plantation Management Solution (SPMS) to strengthen the settlers' plantations management with the assimilation of technology and smart plantation concept.

Felda director-general Datuk Amiruddin Abdul Satar said SPMS was developed with data collected using UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) or drone technology for the smart farming model to realise the concept of precision agriculture or digital farming.

He said this at the SPMS launching ceremony in conjunction with Felda Technology Day (FELTECH) 2022. SPMS was launched by a Felda board member and its Sustainability Committee chairman Abd Halim Abd Majid.

“It can help increase productivity and efficiency as well as reduce farm operating costs,” Amiruddin said.

SPMS, which is integrated with Felda’s existing e-GIS (geographical information system), can be used for area analysis, tree count, plant health status, vacant point, labour utilisation and also to estimate settlers' revenue.

Meanwhile, Abd Halim in his speech, said SPMS will change the way Felda works, to be more towards digital technology, mechanisation and agricultural solutions in implementing precision farming, especially in plantation inventory.

A total of 1,800 participants attended the FELTECH 2022 which was held for two days, starting today.

Among the objectives of FELTECH 2022 is to expand the use of plantation technology and mechanisation in Felda land and increase Felda settlers’ awareness level of the benefits of the use of mechanisation as well as to strengthen the management of farm operations using technology and mechanisation.
