MELAKA, March 21 (Bernama) -- Prof Dr Massila Kamalrudin has been appointed as new Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) Vice-Chancellor for three years effective today.
UTeM said in a statement today that Massila’s appointment as the fifth UTeM vice chancellor will replace Prof Datuk Dr Raha Abdul Rahim, who has completed her tenure.
UTeM said Massila is the second woman to helm UTeM and the Malaysian Technical Universities Network (MTUN) and she began her career in UTeM in 2004 as a tutor of the Faculty of Information Technology and Communications.
"She has held several other administrative positions, including Coordinator and Manager of the UTeM Centre of Excellence (CoE) (May 2014 till May 2017) and Vice Dean of the Technology Management and Entrepreneurship Institute (June 2017 till September 2020).
"Massila has clear aspirations and strategies to inject positive changes in UTeM’s administration and management landscape and will strengthen UTeM’s institutional and academic development aspects as a renowned and respected technical university,” the statement read.
According to the statement, Massila was born on Aug 14, 1981 in Banda Hilir here and possessed an excellent educational background with a Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering) from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2003.
Massila also obtained her Masters in Software Technology from University of Wales Swansea, the United Kingdom and her Doctorate in Electric and Electronic Engineering from The University of Auckland, New Zealand in 2011.
"She is actively involved in the research and innovation field, journal writing, various conferences and seminars as well as consultancy work for several government agencies and high-impact companies.
"Due to her various contributions to universities and the country, she has received many global and national awards and accolades, including Malaysian Young Women Scientist 2020 by the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS)," the statement said.
UTeM also expressed its deepest gratitude to Prof Raha for her service and leadership throughout her tenure as UTeM Vice Chancellor.
