KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 17 -- All mosques in the state have been ordered to put up ample canopies in their compounds to give the opportunity to more Muslim men to perform the Friday prayer.
Terengganu Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIDAM) president, Datuk Shaikh Harun Shaikh Ismail said the decision was made at a special meeting last Jan 11.
“The Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin has expressed his concern over the attendance and lackadaisical attitude of some congregants at the mosques, especially on Friday.
“As such, mosque committee members must play a role in encouraging worshippers to be present to perform the Friday prayer.
“Other than the parking areas, any mosque having multi-storey prayer spaces must open them to be fully used for the prayer,” he said in a statement today.
Shaikh Harun also urged mosque committees to continue ensuring that the standard operating procedure (SOP) be complied with and implemented well.
“Although using the temperature scanner is no longer compulsory, it is mandatory for worshippers to record their personal details through the MySejahtera application or write them in the record book provided,” he said.
