KANGAR, Jan 20 -- A popular Tiktoker, Mohd Hafiz Md Yatim, 31, from Mata Ayer, is using the medium as one of the ways to help promote tourism products in Perlis.
A nurse at a private hospital in Penang, who is also known as ‘Aizat’ or ‘Ijat’, he speaks in the Perlis dialect.
His TikTok account, ‘@aijat9084’, now has a total of 181,100 followers.
According to Mohd Hafiz, from Mata Ayer, he opened the TitTok account in 2018 and was only active in producing videos using the application last year 2021 “as I had so much free time at home following the Movement Control Order (PKP)”.
"As a native of Perlis, I am definitely proud and satisfied to be able to introduce the tourism products of my home state using the local dialect," he told Bernama.
He said among the TikTok videos on tourist locations that he had made was of the Perlis Drainage and Irrigation Department’s (DID) Floating Market, which has now received 1.2 million viewers and 80,000 likes.
Apart from promoting places of interest in Perlis, he also produced a video introducing places to go to in Perlis for food.
Mohd Hafiz said he would continue to producing videos promoting places and food products in Perlis.
"I cannot help in other ways. This is the only way I can do my bit to help boost the economy of the people of Perlis and I’m happy that many comments that I received said that my content is interesting and very helpful in promoting food products and interesting places in Perlis," he added.
Mohd Hafiz said it would be best if the content produced by Tiktoker Malaysia must maintain ethics in showing the characteristics of the Malays who are full of politeness to be watched by all walks of life from adults to children.
“Now, even the children are good at using social media so we have to make sure the contents are not harmful because it can also tarnish our name, image and family.
"Haters are one of the challenges, but they also help to popularise us. However, if it is too extreme, it can be damaging to us.
“TikTok is for fun and relaxation to relieve stress. We can also get useful information from other Tiktokers because in TikTok, there is also a positive angle , but it depends on us to choose which one to follow,” he added.
