MARA PROPOSES TO SET UP MRSM IN KLANG VALLEY 

 KUALA LUMPUR -- Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has proposed to set up a MARA Junior Science Colleges (MRSM) in the Klang Valley area as part of its long-term plans.

 Deputy Rural Development Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said the move was to accommodate a high number of applications among students in the area, which accounted for 50 per cent of total applications.

He also said that seven new MRSMs have been approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), three of them under construction with the rest in pre-implementation stage.

“By 2025, a total of 62 MRSMs is expected to operate nationwide with a student capacity of 46,539," he said in response to a question from Natrah Ismail (PH-Sekijang) who wanted to know the number of existing MRSMs and the ministry's plans to create new MRSMs in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He said 55 MRSM are currently operating nationwide, including two new colleges that had just begun this year, MRSM Bera in Pahang and MRSM Bagan Datuk in Perak, with a total capacity of 42,189  students.

HEALTH MINISTRY HAS 6,066 MEDICAL SPECIALISTS AS OF SEPT 30 

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Health Ministry has 6,055 medical specialists as of Sept 30, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Health Minister II Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said of the total, 6,042 are permanent appointments while 24 others are on contracts.

“Non-clinical specialist doctors with professional qualifications recognised by the government are also given treatment equal to clinical specialist doctors in terms of employment and promotion," he said at the question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today.

He was replying to a question from V. Sivakumar (PH-Batu Gajah) who wanted to know whether non-clinical specialist doctors with government-recognised professional qualifications were treated equally as clinical specialist doctors regarding appointment, employment, promotion and others matters.

ONLY EIGHT ORANG ASLI BIRTH STATUS APPLICATIONS REJECTED IN FIVE YEARS

KUALA LUMPUR -- Only eight applications confirming the birth status of Orang Asli children have been rejected by the National Registration Department (NRD) in the past five years.

Deputy Home Minister II Datuk Jonathan Yasin said the rejections were due to the applicants being unable to attend when called and not having sufficient documents.

 He added that the ministry, through the NRD, always ensured that the process of registering identification documents was simplified nationwide, including in rural areas, through the Menyemai Kasih Rakyat (Mekar) Programme.

 “Mekar is a mobile outreach programme aimed at providing advisory services regarding the registration of identification and death documents of the Orang Asli,” he said in reply to a question by Ramli Mohd Nor (BN-Cameron Highlands) on the government’s move to resolve the issue of Orang Asli without valid documentation at the Dewan Rakyat today.

GOVT TO REVIEW ALLOWANCES FOR POLICE, ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL

 KUALA LUMPUR -- The government will review and strengthen its implementation of allowances for police and enforcement personnel under the Home Ministry (KDN).

Deputy Home Minister II Datuk Jonathan Yasin said the move was to ensure that the allowances provided remain relevant and met the needs as well as requirements of the service, besides ensuring the welfare of civil servants.

“The ministry will continuously review and improve allowances and other facilities to assist enforcement personnel, especially low-ranking personnel, in dealing with the rising cost of living,” he said during the question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today.

He was replying to a question by Sabri Azit (PAS-Jerai) who wanted to know the latest steps to review allowances for police and enforcement personnel under the Home Ministry that should be aligned with the current rising living costs.

TWO JPK TRAINING CENTRES CLOSED DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC

 KUALA LUMPUR -- Two training centres under the Department of Skills Development (JPK) of the Human Resource Ministry have ceased operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Deputy Human Resource Minister Datuk Awang Hashim said as of Sept 31, a total of 1,233 training centres are still actively operating, involving 4,961 programmes based on the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS). 

“To face post-COVID-19 challenges, the JPK will intensify the implementation of modular programmes on a full-time and part-time basis based on NOSS," he said during a question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today.

He was replying to a question by Datuk Mahfuz Omar (PH-Pokok Sena) who wanted to know the number of private Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) accredited centres that ceased operations due to the pandemic.
