KAME 2022: Quest of seven Malaysians to conquer Mount Everest

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 26 -- Inspired by the Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) spirit, seven individuals including one disabled person are determined to conquer Mount Everest next year after being forced to put the plan on the back burner for two years when the COVID-19 pandemic hit Malaysia and the world.

Led by 32-year-old Aziz Afif Ishak, the climbers have decided to come together and form the 'Keluarga Malaysia Everest 2022’ or KAME 2022 to conquer the highest peak in the world in April 2022 and to prove that unity is key to success.

Also in the team are Muhammad Hawari Hashim, 31, who is deaf and mute; Ahmad Murshid Maktar, 34; Alvin Chong Yee Lim, 48; Chandra Kanthen Jumbulingam, 42; Ayu Wanirah Naharuddin, 29 and Rina Jordana Adnan, 41.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu described the KAME 2022 mission as an encouragement to Malaysians who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to rise stronger despite facing many obstacles.

“Efforts like this is important to boost the morale of young Malaysians to rise and keep moving to achieve success,” he said to Bernama after receiving a courtesy call from the KAME 2022 team recently.

Ahmad Faizal said he hoped Malaysians continue to show their strong support to the team, adding that the KAME 2022 mission is meaningful because it brings Malaysians together irrespective of race to make the country proud.

“Of course, they will endure any obstacle, hardship or pain together and finish the mission to conquer Mount Everest,” he said.
