21/10/2021 05:51 PM

IPOH, Oct 21 -- The digitisation of Islamic books and references through the ‘Maktabah Digital’ (digital library) platform, initiated by the Perak Mufti Department, will provide convenience to various groups, including researchers and the general public.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said through this effort, studies that had been carried out could be presented digitally and become a catalyst for the planning and development of Islamic teachings in the state.

“This system aims to facilitate officers to make references for the study of current issues, as well as certified religious teachers, researchers, astronomers and the public to obtain authoritative reference materials digitally.

"There are about 5,000 copies of books covering various titles that can be accessed via the platform," he said during the virtual launch of the digital library today.

He said scientific research should have a platform that is integrated with graphics to facilitate knowledge presentation as well as attract public interest in scientific studies by authoritative bodies.

"The collection of scientific materials and publications with historical value and authentic references must be digitally documented into this system to prevent extinction, damage and loss," he said.

Saarani said the ‘turath’ texts (aspects of faith, worship, humanity, society) which are the legacy of Islamic scholars need to be presented back to society in the digital form.

“In this new form, the latest studies can be adapted completely and comprehensively without fallacies and shortcomings,” he said adding that these studies are crucial in addressing issues faced by Muslims today.
