"Also being developed is a factory that will use technology from China to process Napier grass into pulp as well as high-value biodegradable food containers," he told reporters after witnessing the MoU, here, today.

The MoU was signed by TADC general manager Azhar @ Wahab Jusoh while Regu Yakin was represented by its director, Lee Chuan Leong.

Asked about the market potential of the biodegradable food containers, Dr Azman said the demand was always there from many parties because it was more environmentally friendly and its use did not adversely affect health in the long run.

“High demand is not only from the food manufacturing sector, but the current trend has also caused many hospitals and clinics to switch to the use of these biodegradable food containers.

"We are confident that this project will have a positive impact on the people of Terengganu, especially from the transfer of technology and knowledge related to this industry," he said.

TADC, a subsidiary of the Terengganu State Economic Development Corporation (PMINT), has been operating since 2006.

Its main activity is to carry out production and marketing activities in the field of agriculture and fisheries in line with the Terengganu government's intention to increase the growth of the agriculture sector and agro-based industries to help increase the people's income.
