KUALA KEDAH FERRY PASSENGERS URGED TO UNDERGO COVID-19 TEST IN ADVANCE

ALOR SETAR -- Travellers visiting Langkawi using the ferry services at the Kuala Kedah Ferry Terminal here have been advised to undergo the COVID-19 screening test well in advance before departure.

Kota Setar deputy police chief Supt Mohd Redzuan Salleh said this was to avoid congestion and to speed up the screening process at the terminal for those who wanted to go to the resort island under the tourism bubble pilot project.

According to him, at today’s reopening of the ferry terminal, which had been closed since Sept 6, only 59 out of 200 passengers had undergone the COVID-19 test much earlier “although they can buy the test kits at the pharmacy”.

The terminal, which had been closed following the implementation of the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in Kuala Kedah for 14 days from Sept 6-19, was reopened today.

COPS RAID DRUG PROCESSING LAB IN MONT KIARA CONDO, EIGHT HELD

KUALA LUMPUR -- Police raided a luxury condominium in Mont Kiara that was used as a laboratory to process heroin on Monday (Sept 20) and arrested four men.

Kuala Lumpur Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) chief ACP Sahar Abd Latif said that the 8 pm raid, carried out under Op Eltanin, led to the arrest of the four men aged between 21 and 49 and the seizure of 11.95 kilogrammes (kg) of heroin worth an estimated RM160,130, 25 kg of caffeine (RM8,500) and drug processing equipment.

He said that after interrogating the suspects, police conducted a follow-up raid on a temple in Jalan Ipoh, near here, and a dog-breeding store in Kampung Baru Subang, Shah Alam and arrested four local men aged between 34 and 43.

Police also seized Proton Myvi, Proton Perdana, Nissan Navara and Toyota Harrier vehicles in the two raids.

440,200 FISH SEEDS RELEASED IN TERENGGANU TODAY

KUALA TERENGGANU -- A total of 440,200 freshwater fish seeds of various species worth RM141,800 were released simultaneously in major rivers in eight districts in Terengganu today.

State Agriculture, Agro-based Industry and Rural Development Committee chairman Dr Azman Ibrahim said among the fish seeds released were baung, lampam and sea bass as well as giant prawns.

He said the programme was part of an initiative implemented in conjunction with the Terengganu Agriculture Year 2021 to increase the supply of fish in rivers in all districts, thus benefiting 273 inland fishermen statewide.

“The Hulu Terengganu district recorded the highest release of 230,000 giant prawn and lampam seeds in Sungai Leban in Tasik Kenyir and Sungai Tersat (22,550 fish seeds), followed by Sungai Dungun (42,750 fish seeds); Setiu and Kuala Terengganu (22,500 fish seeds each); Marang (21,000), Kuala Nerus (21,500), Kemaman (20,500) and Besut (14,600),” he said in a statement today.

PAHANG TO ALLOW UNVACCINATED CONGREGANTS TO PRAY AT ALL MOSQUES, SURAU

KUANTAN -- All mosques and surau in Pahang are allowed to conduct Friday and obligatory prayers with the congregation open to all, including those who have yet to be vaccinated, subject to certain conditions.

The Pahang Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIP), in a statement today, said that the standard operating procedure (SOP) came into effect yesterday, with the number of congregants, except for locations under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), according to the capacity of the mosque, surau and with proper physical distancing.

For mosques and surau in EMCO areas, the number of people permitted for obligatory prayers is set at 12 and for Friday prayers at 40, excluding officers and mosque committee members, with priority given to those who are fully vaccinated.

BRIBERY: MOTORCYCLE SPARE PARTS COMPANY DIRECTOR FINED RM70,000

SEREMBAN -- A motorcycle spare parts company director was fined RM70,000 at the Sessions Court here today after pleading guilty to giving bribes to two Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) officers in February last year.

Judge Madihah Harullah also ordered the accused, Wong Yeng Fart, 49, to serve a 12-month jail sentence if he failed to pay the fine. The accused paid the fine.

Wong admitted giving cash amounting to RM100,000 to two enforcement officers working in the Supply Control Unit, KPDNHEP in Negeri Sembilan as an inducement not to take action against all companies supplying spare parts for his motorcycles and committing offences under the Trademarks Act 2019.

TWO CASES OF LEPTOSPIROSIS, ONE ROTAVIRUS REPORTED IN N.SEMBILAN - JKNNS

SEREMBAN -- The Negeri Sembilan State Health Department (JKNNS) said two cases of Leptospirosis and one case of Rotavirus have been reported, with the patients admitted to the Tuanku Jaa’far Hospital (HTJ), here, for treatment.

JKNNS director Datin Dr Harlina Abdul Rashid said the three patients were admitted to the HTJ after suffering from fever, vomiting and diarrhoea and had visited the Ulu Bendul Recreation Centre, Kuala Pilah last week.

“However, the cases are still under investigation and awaiting the results of the Leptospirosis confirmation tests, risk assessment and environmental samples in the area taken by Kuala Pilah District Health Office officers before follow-up action is taken.

“Therefore, anyone who has gone to Ulu Bendul and has symptoms can seek treatment at nearby health facilities,” she said in a statement today.

The Kuala Pilah District Council (MDKP) president said the Ulu Bendul waterfall had been temporarily closed from last Friday until Sunday (Sept 26) to enable maintenance and cleaning work to be done.
