Sabah floods: Three relief centres in Kota Belud closed

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 22  -- Three flood relief centres (PPS) in Kota Belud district which housed 88 people from 26 families were closed at 5 pm today, according to the Sabah State Disaster Management Secretariat.

In a statement tonight, it said all the victims were allowed to leave the centres after their homes were declared safe for occupation.

"The PPS at Dewan Mini Mesapol, Sipitang is still open although 24 victims from eight families have returned home,” it said.

The secretariat said 13 victims from four families were still housed at the Dewan Mini Mesapol PPS as their houses were still flooded.

Forty areas in Kota Belud and 13 areas in Sipitang were hit by floods after continuous rain caused rivers to burst their banks and flood nearby villages.
