KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 – Leading asset management and infrastructure solutions company, UEM Edgenta Berhad (UEM Edgenta) has reaffirmed its commitment against corruption and on good governance by signing the Corruption-Free Pledge with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
UEM Edgenta, in a statement, said the pledge declaration was led by its managing director cum chief executive officer Syahrunizam Samsudin, in the presence of MACC officials, the company’s board of directors and close to 250 employees who attended its Integrity Day 2021 that was held virtually today.
The ceremony was also witnessed by MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Seri Norazlan Mohd Razali, in which he applauded UEM Edgenta in his opening speech for continuing to take the stand in fighting against corruption, whilst also hoping that more companies and communities will join the commission in the same mission.
According to Syahrunizam, the pledge reinforces the will and corruption-free stand of the board and management of UEM Edgenta and sets a clear leadership tone in developing a culture built upon ethics, accountability and trust.
“It also demonstrates our long-standing commitment to promoting integrity and good governance amongst our personnel as we value transparency and ethical corporate governance in all its businesses and procedures,” Syahrunizam was quoted as saying in the statement.
He also emphasised that the company does not tolerate any abuse of power or corruption, as it wanted to ensure that there are no elements of corruption throughout the organisation.
This is further exemplified through various Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption (ABAC) initiatives such as ABAC Policy and Guide; Code of Conduct for Board Members; Employees and Business Partners; Corruption Risk Assessment; Conflict of Interest; Whistleblowing Policy and Platform as well as continuous communications using dedicated channels, which include online learning on integrity, risk, and compliance via its own learning platform, ‘LEARN’.
“Additionally, to ensure a structured and efficient risk management system, the company also embarked on operational excellence through proper certification and accreditation as well as occasional ‘Brown Bag’ sessions, for improved information and communication transparency whilst instilling a sense of responsibility and integrity in the workforce,” Syahrunizam said.
The Corruption-Free Pledge, an initiative first introduced by the MACC, emphasises the oath and pledge taken by an organisation's leadership and employees to be accountable and responsible in performing their duties without any corruption misconduct during their holding of office.
It showcases the company's commitment and serves as an assurance that necessary steps have been taken to fight against corruption.
